It began with a simple question on Instagram. In December 2018, Temi shared a casual Q&A on her Instagram story. Among the replies was one short message that neither of them could have known would quietly change the course of their lives: “Friends?”
She said yes. Gbenga followed up with a DM, explaining that he lived in Akobo too and genuinely just wanted to be friends. There was no grand romantic gesture, no elaborate plan, and, as he would later put it, “no shooting his shot.” Just two people, meeting at the beginning of a story they didn't yet know they were writing.
They talked. They laughed. They got to know each other. And somewhere along the way, a simple friendship began to grow into something deeper. Neither of them rushed it. They simply allowed life to unfold, one conversation at a time.
Three years passed. Then, in December 2021, Gbenga finally asked Temi on a date. She said yes. Two dates later, they made it official. What started as an unexpected friendship had quietly become a love story. Over the years, they grew together through different seasons of life, across conversations, countries, and countless memories. They learned each other, chose each other, and continued to build something that neither of them could have imagined back in 2018.
Then came January 7, 2026. Just two weeks before their fifth anniversary, during an intimate trip to Cabo, Mexico, Gbenga asked Temi the question that would change everything once again: “Will you spend forever with me?” It was thoughtful. It was intimate. It was perfect. And perhaps most fittingly, it brought their story full circle.
Because their story was never really about a grand beginning. It was about something much simpler: friendship, timing, and two people who kept choosing to walk toward each other.
Five years of love. A few countries. Countless conversations. One unforgettable proposal. And it can all be traced back to a single Instagram story and one little question: “Friends?” What began with friendship became love. What became love is now becoming a marriage.
